George Vasilyev is Higher Ground Church's first missionary! This past October he has joined Youth With A Mission (YWAM) for three months of training followed by two months of mission outreach in Taiwan.

YWAM is a global Christian movement founded in 1960 with the purpose of empowering young people to serve Jesus and spread the Gospel throughout the world. They have ministries in over 180 countries, training others to know God better and making Him known through discipleship and evangelism. One of their largest training headquarters in Kona, HI, is geared toward helping missionaries build the skills, character and knowledge to bring revival and reformation wherever God takes them.
George has been an integral part of Higher Ground's prayer team, worship/AV team, and hospitality team; a consistent and loving member of our family who faithfully shows up for others. Throughout all this, he has been preparing for the next chapter with the full support of his church home.
"Here, I've experienced firsthand the power of prayer from fiery prayer warriors who really care about God and one another. They equip people for their daily lives in a community grounded in: worship, prayer, and obedience to Scripture. Not to mention the many events where people love one another!
This summer, I [took] a discipleship class from HGC to develop skills to study and interpret God's Word. To practice them in the community and use those skills as long-term habits for personal or public endeavors.
I cannot stress enough how in my walk with Jesus and unconventional history, that time and time again, prayer has moved proverbial mountains. I hold firm to what the Holy Spirit convicts me (learning to identify His voice - in God's character through His Word and His people)."
George will be updating this blog with news from his training, inviting us to prayerfully walk alongside him as God reveals His Will in sending him into the field. We are so excited to witness the great things He has planned!
